Robotic Surgery

Robotic surgery, or robot-assisted surgery, allows physicians to perform many types of complex procedures with more precision, flexibility and control. With the expertise of our skilled surgeons, the exceptional benefits of robotic procedures are available for many surgeries. With 12 surgical suites at Lima Memorial, including two dedicated robotic surgery rooms, the Timmermeister Family Surgery Center provides an exceptional experience our patients deserve.

The future of spine and brain surgery is here.

Your spine and brain are the superhighway of your body, supporting an intricate nervous system that controls every part of you. So when a spine or brain surgery is necessary, it must be done with the utmost precision. And at Lima Memorial, it will be, thanks to our highly skilled surgeons working hand-in-hand with the Mazor X™ and Stealth Autoguide™ robotic systems.

These newest additions to our nationally recognized robotics program are among the first of their kind in Ohio. Now, as part of the most advanced surgical care in our region, your procedure can be mapped out in advance and performed with unmatched precision – no worries, just great outcomes.

Back to the future. Your future.

Introducing the Mazor X™ robotic surgery and guidance system.

With the Mazor X™ robotic guidance system, Lima Memorial now offers the latest advancement in minimally invasive spinal surgeries. The Mazor X™ works by allowing our surgeons to utilize preoperative imaging to create an individualized surgical plan before they set foot in the operating room.

Once your procedure begins, your surgeon, equipped with an automated robotic arm, will execute your customized surgical plan with a level of precision that can only be achieved via the micro incisions the Mazor X™ makes possible.

What it all means for you.

So what does this advanced technology and increased precision mean for our patients? Several things, including:

  • Less pain
  • Smaller incisions
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Faster-than-ever recovery times
  • Lower risk of complications
  • Highly predictable outcomes

Which procedures benefit most from Mazor X™-assisted surgery?

  • Herniated disc
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Complex scoliosis and kyphosis

Brain. Power.

Introducing the Stealth Autoguide™ robotic guidance system.

You’ve no doubt heard the expression, “It’s not brain surgery.” The implication being that brain surgery requires a level of skill that very few possess. Which is why, in addition to having the most highly skilled neurosurgeons in the region, Lima Memorial has invested in the Stealth Autoguide™ Cranial Robotics Guidance Platform.

Stealth Autoguide™ provides continuous real-time visualization, feedback and robotic-assisted movement, allowing our surgeons to accurately align their surgical plans to your procedure. And more, it assists with digital accuracy through anatomical positioning and orientation so you and your neurosurgeon can be confident no element of the procedure is left to chance.

Which procedures best utilize Stealth Autoguide™ technology?

  • Brain biopsies
  • Stereoelectroencephalogrophy (sEEG)
  • Depth Electrode Placement
  • Catheter Placement

Robotic-Assisted Surgery

Using the da Vinci® Surgical System

Lima Memorial's da Vinci® surgical robotics program delivers exceptional outcomes for our patients. The robot helps surgeons conduct complex procedures with more precision, flexibility and control, using a minimally invasive approach. For our patients, this means less pain, shorter hospital stays and a quicker recovery.  For surgeons, the da Vinci Surgical System provides increased range of motion, improved dexterity and enhanced 3D visualization. It’s important to know that surgery with da Vinci® does not place a robot at the controls; the surgeon is controlling every aspect of the surgery with the assistance of the surgical platform.

The da Vinci® Surgical System consists of three components:

  • An ergonomically designed surgeon’s console
  • A patient-side cart where instruments used during the operation move in real time response to your surgeon’s hand movements with four interactive robotic arms
  • A high-performance vision system and patented EndoWrist® instruments

Surgical Innovation

It’s important to know that surgery with da Vinci® does not place a robot at the controls; the surgeon is controlling every aspect of the surgery with the assistance of the surgical platform.

This breakthrough surgical “robot” features a magnified, 3-D, high-definition vision system and tiny wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human hand. The system allows your surgeon to use surgical instruments that are too small for human fingers, which means he or she can operate with enhanced vision, control and precision. Your surgeon is 100 percent in control of the da Vinci® System at all times.

Lima Memorial Exclusively Selected as Site for the da Vinci® Robotic Mentor Program

Our robotics program has garnered national attention and has been exclusively selected as a designated site for the da Vinci® Robotic Mentor Program. Physicians across the country come to Lima Memorial to learn from our expert surgeons.

As one of the most skilled da Vinci® general surgeons in the United States, surgeons and administrators have the chance to observe how Dr. Heffner utilizes da Vinci® technology for patient treatment, learn specific techniques and study how to produce the same clinical outcomes that have elevated Lima Memorial’s general surgery program to an exceptionally high standard.

The physicians at Midwest Surgical Specialists are highly skilled with many years of experience in surgical robotics. Talk with your doctor about the many benefits robotic surgery has to offer.
